Arajet Lands in La Romana with Its 15th Aircraft “Isla Catalina” in Tribute to One of the Dominican Caribbean’s Natural Treasures
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. – Dominican airline Arajet landed today at La Romana International Airport with its 15th aircraft, a modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 named “Isla Catalina,” continuing its tradition of naming its airplanes after the Dominican Republic’s main protected areas and natural monuments as part of its commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.
With this new addition, Arajet continues strengthening the Dominican Republic as the New Air Hub of the Continent, operating the youngest aircraft fleet in the Americas.
Catalina Island, located off the coast of La Romana, is one of the Dominican Republic’s most visited tourist gems. Known for its white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and extraordinary marine biodiversity, the island is part of the National System of Protected Areas and is considered one of the Caribbean’s top destinations for diving and excursion tourism.
Manuel Luna, Arajet’s Chief Communication Officer, highlighted that the 15th aircraft holds special significance in aviation in terms of operations and profitability. “With Isla Catalina, our fleet continues to grow stronger, marking the beginning of a new stage of balance and sustainability, while we continue sharing messages with the world about the Dominican Republic’s natural richness,” Luna stated.
Luis Emilio Rodríguez Amiama, Administrator of La Romana Airport, expressed: “As a business group, both Central Romana and its hospitality division Casa de Campo maintain a historic and deeply committed relationship with the development, protection, and preservation of this invaluable natural monument, a symbol of our region’s tourism and environmental heritage.”
Paola Plá, Deputy Director General of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), stated: “At IDAC, we celebrate the arrival of Arajet’s 15th aircraft, a milestone that reaffirms the sustained growth of commercial aviation in the Dominican Republic and the confidence airlines place in our country as a strategic air connectivity hub in the region. This progress reflects the joint commitment between the public and private sectors to continue strengthening a modern, safe, and efficient aviation industry in service of the nation’s tourism and economic development.”
“We congratulate Arajet on receiving its 15th aircraft, through which it seeks to expand its services and operations as one of the country’s leading airlines, connecting not only destinations, but also the hearts of all Dominicans — those here at home and those thousands of miles away from their homeland. We highlight the work of the entire Arajet team, which in a short time has stood out for its growth in promoting air connectivity, not only for long-haul flights, but also as a bridge connecting destinations from the Dominican Republic to parts of the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean,” emphasized Héctor Porcella, President of the Civil Aviation Board.
The initiative of naming aircraft after protected areas is part of the airline’s vision to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the Dominican Republic’s natural resources while also showcasing the country’s ecological and tourism wealth internationally. In the past, Arajet has named aircraft after places such as “Bahía de las Águilas,” “Los Haitises,” “Valle Nuevo,” “Isabel de Torres,” and “La Caleta,” highlighting various national natural icons.
The “Isla Catalina” aircraft joins Arajet’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet, recognized for its fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and lower noise pollution levels, aligning with international sustainability best practices in the aviation industry.
With the arrival of this new aircraft, Arajet continues advancing its mission of transforming the Dominican Republic into the Caribbean’s main air hub and expanding connectivity opportunities for millions of passengers throughout the region.
